What are the uses of pressure sensors?

Gone are the days when consumers used to rely on old fashioned devices in manufacturing plants. The invention of modern devices has provided new options to industry professionals. The pressure sensor is one such device which is commonly used in manufacturing plants today.

Pressure Sensors

A pressure sensor, as the name suggests, is a device which is used to measure pressure. It is generally used to measure the pressure of gases or liquids. This device performs a similar function to a transducer. It generates a signal after detecting the overall pressure exerted. This signal is usually electrical in nature.

Pressure sensors are used for tracking and controlling process control applications used on a daily basis in manufacturing plants. Excessive pressure in a system can cause an untoward incident. At the same time, some electrical and mechanical applications cannot perform efficiently at too low a pressure.

They can also be used to measure other variables such as:

• Speed
• Altitude
• Gas or liquid

Pressure sensors are also known as pressure transducers, pressure senders and pressure indicators. Pressure sensors are available in many different types which vary on the basis of technology, design and function. They also differ on the basis of application and cost.
