Understanding pressure transducers in detail

The pressure exerted on the sensing mechanism and the changes in this mechanism after the exertion of pressure is measured with the help of a pressure transducer. A pressure transducer is generally used to measure the pressure exerted on liquids and gases. It is available with different technologies and styles to suit varying industrial environment and applications.

Why pressure transducers are used in industry

Industries especially those into the business of manufacturing deal with applications with high pressure. This pressure if not controlled can result into accidents and injuries that can lead to death. Pressure transducers help the operator to monitor the pressure exerted in the applications and control it to eliminate potential dangers of high pressure.

Types of pressure transducer

Gauge pressure sensor – This type of transducer is used in applications that measure the pressure related to the atmospheric pressure. A tire pressure gauge is the best example of gauge pressure sensor.

Vacuum pressure sensor – Where gauge pressure transducer is used to measure atmospheric pressure at given location, vacuum pressure sensor measure the pressure exerted that is lower than the atmospheric pressure.

The use of pressure transducers

Depending on the industrial applications, the model of application and the environment; pressure transducer is used to measure different types of pressure viz;

• Absolute pressure
• Vacuum pressure
• Measuring gauge pressures
• Differential pressure

Miniature pressure transducer, oil pressure transducer and stain gauge pressure transducer are some of the most common types found in industrial applications, especially the ones dealing with oil and the manufacturing of machinery.
