Check the different pressure levels with pressure switches

Like pressure sensors and pressure transducers, pressure switches are used in various industrial plants. Pressure switches are installed in units which require an amount of pressure or strain for operational purposes. If you own a utility plant where pressure is imposed or generated then the usage of pressure switches is most probably necessary.

Once you have installed pressure switches in the applications then you can monitor the pressure changes. Unlike other pressure measuring devices, pressure switches stop the operation when the pressure goes beyond an acceptable level. In some cases, pressure switches also break the electrical connections.

If you have decided to buy pressure switches for your units then you have to know about its components.

The parts of pressure switches

A diaphragm is installed in pressure switches to sense or measure the amount of pressure imposed on the unit. There is a ring around the diaphragm which protects it from tough conditions. There is also a pair of electrically conductive contacts which break when the pressure level goes too high. With the help of the above mentioned components, you can monitor the pressure changes and take some action.

Due to different requirements, a number of types of pressure switches are available on the market. Mechanical and differential pressure switches are commonly used these days.

Mechanical pressure switches – The main role of these switches is to provide pressure details to operators.

Differential pressure switches – These are designed in such a way that they can check the pressure of two or more units.

Both these devices are commonly used in different industries to check whether the pressure is under control or not.
