New CMC-141 multi-channel controller has a larger display and more I/O options

January 27th, 2012

Instrumentation specialist Impress Sensors & Systems Ltd has launched a new compact, multi-channel controller with large touchscreen colour TFT display and up to 72 digital inputs/outputs. The controller is therefore ideal for the simultaneous measurement and control of a wide variety of process engineering applications.

The new CMC-141 controller is the ‘big brother’ of the CMC-99, providing all the same functionality and features, but also offering a larger 5.7-inch (320 x 240 pixels) backlit display, more inputs/outputs (up to 72) and new types of logic channels. The CMC-141 now provides brand new channels, including a universal input card that can accommodate a range of sensor inputs. New counter inputs are provided too, as well as additional flow meter and rate meter inputs. Despite these extra features, the CMC-141 is still housed in a compact enclosure with the same panel insertion depth (100mm) as the CMC-99.

Sam Drury, Sales & Marketing Director at Impress Sensors & Systems comments: “Another added value feature of the CMC-141 is that it comes with JAVA applets, which can be embedded into any website or HTML-based web page, allowing users to remotely access real time data from the controller via the Ethernet interface and a web browser.”

The CMC-141 can simultaneously record all channel data at a maximum speed of 10Hz (ten samples per second). The unit provides up to 1.5GB of internal data memory, which is sufficient to continuously save data from all input channels at a speed of 1 sample per second for more than 2 months (125,000,000 samples in total). The operator can download saved data using a USB flash memory disk or remotely via Ethernet.

The CMC-141 provides three card slots on the reverse of the controller, each comprising 24 I/O pin options, which enable the user to choose any combination of inputs and outputs to suit the application. For example, up to 72 analogue current or voltage inputs could be used; up to 36 relay/SSR outputs; 36 thermocouple inputs; 18 RTD inputs; or a combination of these. The unit also incorporates a 24V DC digital input, enabling relays and triggers to be set up.

The CMC-141 is low cost compared to existing alternatives on the market and is ideal for a wide range of process applications, including centralised temperature measurement and control; multi-zone heating control; intermediate pumping station control; spraying and heating control for greenhouses; control of industrial furnaces and incinerators; and for engine test cell measurements.

Measuring just 144mm x 144mm x 100mm, the controller housing is very compact, which means the unit can be installed in restricted spaces. The controller has a 5.7-inch backlit colour TFT display and is based on the Linux operating system, with touch-screen menu navigation, offering ease of use and familiarity to the operator. A USB interface is provided on the front of the device, enabling the user to upload or download software programs quickly and easily via a USB memory stick.

Compact digital pressure gauges offer exceptional price/performance ratio

A range of low cost, battery-powered digital pressure gauges has been launched, which offers customers a direct, cost effective replacement for their existing, less accurate mechanical gauges.

The DM 10 range of battery-powered digital pressure gauges is available through Impress Sensors & Systems Ltd, a sensor and instrumentation specialist. The gauges are targeted at a wide range of applications, including hydraulics & pneumatics, process engineering, R&D/laboratory work, and mobile pressure monitoring, including mobile construction vehicles, tractors, pumps, compressors and filters. The gauges have a ceramic diaphragm and so are also suitable for environments in which aggressive chemicals are present.

DM 10 Low cost digital pressure gauge

DM 10 Low cost digital pressure gauge

Sam Drury, Sales & Marketing Director at Impress Sensors & Systems commented: “The DM 10 is a cost effective direct replacement for most mechanical pressure gauges. It has a 63mm diameter display, the same as common mechanical gauges, but the DM 10 offers higher accuracy, repeatability and reliability.”

The DM 10 is designed to be mounted easily and quickly in-situ. The 4.5 digit, 7-segment LC display can be rotated independently of the housing, providing the engineer with clear sight of the display at all times, regardless of the mounting configuration. The housing itself rotates 270 degrees about the horizontal axis.

The device is operated through a simple, menu-driven display via push buttons on a touchpad. As well as showing information about the nominal pressure range, the unit can display via the menu the maximum and minimum pressures of a process. “For example, an engineer may have a fault in the system and therefore needs to check what the maximum pressure reading on the gauge was. An increase in the system pressure from say 6 bar up to 10.5 bar may indicate an over-pressure problem within the process and this would be displayed on the gauge,” Drury added.

Users can also choose which units of measurement they prefer, including bar, mbar, psi, mH2O and MPa. Additional functions include auto-zero and an automatic switch-off, where the user can define between 1 and 5 minutes or select continuous operation.

Nominal pressure ranges for the DM 10 are from 1.6 bar up to 250 bar. Minimum operational life of the battery is 1,500 hours.

DS Series Combined pressure transmitter, pressure switch and pressure display

DS Series Combined pressure transmitter, pressure switch and pressure display

The DS range of pressure transmitter, switch and display combination is a three-in-one multi-function pressure sensor with signal conditioning which gives a current or voltage output signal, 1, 2 or 4 x independent PNP transistor switch outputs and a freely scalable and programmable led rotatable display!  The potential for this device is a complete control system in a single device, cutting installation and equipment costs and configuration to your exact control requirements.

With pressure ranges spanning from 10mbar on the DS 210 through to 600 bar on the DS 200 within the DS series we should be able to cover all requirements on air pressure measurement and liquid pressure sensing alike.  The DS range will cover your requirements for an air pressure transmitter, oil pressure transmitter, hydraulic pressure transmitter and also if it’s just a simple pressure switch that you require then this device will solve that requirement also.

There are several options available within the range including:

  1. ATEX certification
  2. 1, 2 or 4 switch points
  3. analogue output in either 4-20mA, voltage or none!
  4. electrical connection
  5. process connection type

There’s also the option for a 3-wire 4-20mA configuration which allows for re-calibration of the 4-20mA output signal, not only is the display scalable, the output is also!

The digital LED display on the device is freely rotatable through 2-axis so you will always be able to see the display clearly.  If installed on a vertical pipe horizontally then simply rotate the display through the body until it is face on and then rotate it on the display part so the readings are horizontal.  The brightness is also adjustable depending on the environment you are installing to.

The DS 210 – Air pressure sensor switch

Suitable for air pressure and non aggressive gases, the start of measurement is from as low as 10mbar through to 1000mbar Gauge reference only.  Vacuum pressure ranges also available.

The DS 201 – Ceramic pressure sensor switch and display

Suitable for Gases and Liquids from pressure ranges from 600mbar through to 600 bar Gauge or Absolute reference making this suitable for gauge pressure sensor, absolute pressure sensor requirements and absolute pressure switch applications also.

The DS 200 – Stainless steel pressure sensor switch and display

Suitable for Gases and Liquids compatible with the stainless steel media isolated diaphragm.  Pressure ranges from 100mbar through to 600 bar Gauge or Absolute reference, being based on a silicon pressure sensor with stainless steel diaphragm the over pressure capability is inherently higher and also the resolution is higher than the DS 201 with the ceramic pressure sensor.

The DS 230 – OEM Digital pressure switch with display

Suitable for Gases and Liquids compatible with the ceramic diaphragm and FKM internal O-ring seal.  Pressure ranges from 2 bar through to 400 bar Gauge reference only.  This is a lower cost version with less accuracy and no transmission of output, just purely a pressure switch and pressure display device targeted at OEM applications.

Battery Powered Digital Pressure Gauge – 1800 hours continuous operation!

May 6th, 2009
Battery Operated Digital Pressure Gauge

Battery Operated Digital Pressure Gauge

The BAROLI battery operated digital pressure gauge has an unrivaled continuous operation time of 1800 Hours!  Using 2 x half AA battery’s that are available from most local  battery suppliers, the BAROLI can work without having the power turned off for up to 1800 hours (75 days).  The device can also be set via the push-buttons on the display to have an automatic switch off after 1,2,3,4 or 5 minutes to further extend this lifetime.

The digital pressure gauge is available with two different sensing technologies installed internally, the first option is the low cost ceramic piezo-resistive pressure sensor which has a pressure range from 1 bar up to 400 bar Gauge or Absolute.  The second option is the stainless steel media isolated silicon sensor with pressure ranges from 100mbar through to 600 bar also in gauge or absolute reference.

The accuracy performance of the ceramic sensor will offer better than 0.25% FS BFSL and the silicon sensor with the improved resolution will offer better than 0.125%.   Both version are temperature compensated and offer excellent stability.  The update rate of the displayed reading is 5 per second which is more than adequate when being used as a visual indication of changing pressure.

The display is LCD with a very visible 40 x 30mm screen size.  The main display area is 4.5-digit 7-segment with a digit height of 11 mm.  It also has an information line on the display which is 6-digit 14-segment and a digit height of 7.5 mm which displays useful information when navigating the menu.  The Housing of the display is PA material with a unique feature that is can rotate in 2 axis through 270 degree’s.  This means where ever the display is installed with a simple twist and turn of the display unit you can always make the display visible to the user!

Some interesting features  on the menu options…

1) Zero ‘Tare’ – This means if there is an offset in the pressure line or after fitting a pressure seal there is a slight offset then this can be removed by a simple push of the buttons on the display

2)  Changing of engineering units – the standard is Bar but this can be changed to mbar, PSI, mWs, inHg, cmHg, mmHg, kPa, MPa without affecting the calibration.  The device will automatically apply the calibration factors required for the change of scale!

3)  You can tell the device what switch off time you require or leave the display on permanently

4)  Minimum and maximum display of the pressure reading – When using the device and you need to know what the minimum pressure or maximum pressure the device has been exposed to then this can be looked up in the menu, this is particularly useful when diagnosing a fault in a process where the sensor can record and over pressure for example

5)  Re-calibration of the full scale pressure range – If you have a pressure source and you feel it is necessary to re-calibrate the device to take out any offsets then this can easily be done by generating the correct pressure and pressing the span calibration in the menu

6) Reset to factory default – When you just need to reset the calibration to factory default if for instance you’ve calibrated the device to the incorrect pressure then all is not lost, just restore to factory default settings with a couple of presses of the buttons!

Impress Carry a stock of these devices so are available for ex-stock delivery internationally!  The standard process connection is G 1/2″ male to DIN 3852 but other fittings such as NPT are also available to order.
